ATBUTH collapsed bridge: Bauchi govt. pledges swift intervention

Bauchi State Government has pledged immediate intervention on the collapsed of bridge at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Gubi Campus Bauchi.
The State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed gave the assurance yesterday when he led top government officials and heads of security agencies in the state on a courtesy visit to the management of the university.
The Governor, who was represented by the Speaker, State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Sulaiman said the visit is to assess the areas that required urgent attention.
While sympathizing with the management of the university over the incident, Governor Bala Mohammed prayed for the soul of the students who lost their lives.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Ahmed Abdulazeez expressed gratitude to the state government for its immediate action, said so far 3 students were confirmed dead, while no anyone is missing.
The Vice Chancellor said already the university management has constituted a high powered committee to work out modalities towards averting the reoccurrence of the incident.
Adamu Ahmed Itas, who is the SUG President in the university, described the state government’s intervention as a welcome development.
In a related development The National Union of Bauchi State Students NUBASS has requested Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed on immediate construction of the collapsed bridge at Gubi campus of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi.
The National President of the Union, Comrade Ibrahim Hashimu Abdullahi made the request when he led members of the union on a courtesy call to the Governor at the Government House Bauchi.
The National President also appealed for the provision of health facilities and construction of boreholes in the university in order to alleviate the sufferings of the students.
Comrade Abdullahi observed that, regular payment of scholarship to students will no doubt contribute towards improving the standard of education in the state.
Responding, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed appealed to members of the union to consider the recent collapsed of bridge at Gubi campus of the ATBU as an act of God.
The Governor who was represented by the Speaker, State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Yakubu Sulaiman assured them of government action on their requests.
