The former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu over the recent wave of violent attacks in parts of the country, accusing the administration of failing to match its assurances with action.
In a statement, Atiku referenced the president’s earlier pledge that the Angwan Rukuba attack would not recur, arguing that the assurance now appears ineffective following another deadly incident in Benue State, where more than a dozen people were reportedly killed within 72 hours of the promise.
He urged the president, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief, to rise to the demands of governance and tackle the country’s growing security challenges decisively.
The former vice president also expressed concern over developments in Nasarawa State, where residents of a community were said to have fled their homes on foot due to fears of impending attacks.
Additionally, he noted reports of another violent incident in Kaduna State over the weekend, further underscoring what he described as a troubling pattern of insecurity.
Atiku emphasized that the fundamental duty of government is to protect lives and property while ensuring the welfare of citizens, calling on the administration to move beyond what he described as “rhetoric” and take concrete steps to address the situation.
He also extended condolences to families affected by the attacks, expressing sympathy for those who lost loved ones.
