Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Allhaji Atiku Abubakar has promised the people of Ondo State job creation, roads rehabilitation, security and adequate funding of education in the state, among others, if elected as the next President of the country come 2023.
Atiku made the pledge while speaking at the PDP presidential campaign rally held in Akure, the Ondo State capital, yesterday.
At the well attended rally held at the MKO Abiola Democracy Park, Igbatoro road, Akure, the former Vice President
promised to vigorously tackle and eliminate the issue of insecurity ravaging the various parts of the country.
At the rally, which has other leaders and chieftains of the party in attendance, the PDP presidential candidate said, “We are starting our campaign rally in the South West from Ondo State. It is deliberate, because we want to show you that we appreciate what you have done for us in the last election.
“By giving us the highest votes in the Southwest, we will never forget you, that is why if you repeat the support again, we promise we will definitely deal with insecurity. We will eliminate it.
“We will also make sure that all the Federal roads linking Ondo state and other parts of the country are made very motorable.
“I have also undertaken to make sure that our young men and women, you are the one who are gathered here today, you are the one who are suffering in the sun today.
You are going to vote for us and protect the votes for us. We promise you, we will set aside enough money to make sure that we empower you for your jobs, for your security and for your families.
“That is why in our our policy documents, we said we are going to set aside 10 billion US dollars to make sure that we provide small and medium enterprises for young men and women, to create jobs and to empower themselves. This is our number one priority.
“We must empower our young men and women so that they can have a brighter future for themselves and their families.
“We will also make sure that all the Federal roads linking Ondo state and other parts of the country are made very motorable.
“Our people of Ondo State, we also promise that we shall, by the grace of God, provide enough funding for education so that our universities can continue with their work, not what the APC are doing today”, he said
Speaking at the rally, the Director-General of the PDP presidential candidate council and Governor of Sokoto State, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal told the Ondo State voters and others that Atiku has the capacity and the experience to restructure Nigeria with a view to ensuring true federalism, devolution of power and the resources for sub-national at the state level and local government level for them to work for the people of this country.
According to Tambuwal, “today (yesterday), the train for the rescuing, for the unification, and for the restructuring of Nigeria is here in Akure Ondo State. “Atiku Abubakar is one man, I believe, has the capacity, the experience to restructure Nigeria whereby we can have federalism, devolution of power and the resources for sub-national at the state level and local government level for them to work for the people of this country.
“I have, as a lawyer and a parliamentarian, seen the document for the restructuring of Nigeria by Atiku and I believe that document has no equal to any of the presidential candidates that we have running in Nigeria today.
“I, therefore, appeal to the politically independent-minded and sagacious people of Ondo State to vote for Atiku and all the candidates of the PDP in the 2023 general elections for the rescue, restoration and security of Nigeria and indeed for Nigeria’s development”, the Governor pleaded.
Also, the National Chairman of the leading opposition party in the country, Senator Iyorchia Ayu told that gathering that of all the presidential candidates that are jostling to be elected as the next President of the Nigeria, it only Atiku Abubakar who has the needed experience, the will and ability to pull the country out of its current “very bad shape, insecurity, poor education services, poor roads, poor everything, and indebted country.”.
“You need an experienced leader, somebody who has done it before”, Ayu said.
Continuing, the former Senate President and erstwhile university lecturer said, “Ondo is an educated and enlightened community. You know the right thing and that is why you have always voted for PDP.
“Don’t be despaired that they rigged the last election. PDP is coming back to rule Ondo state. But for us to come back, we as a party, must remain united in Ondo state, there should be no divisions.
“Work together to win the Presidential election and in Ondo state, give us the highest votes. The return of PDP at the National level is the return of PDP in Ondo state.
“At the national level, we have chosen a candidate that I don’t need to campaign to you, he is your in-law, he is more Yoruba than most of you. His children have Yoruba blood flowing in them, so he cannot forget you and let nobody convince you that he is more Yoruba than our brother Atiku Abubakar”, Ayu said.
