The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) yesterday disclosed that Automated Teller Machine (ATM) transactions dominated the volume of transactions recorded by Nigeria Banking Sector in Q4, 2017.
NBS said, a total volume of 461,980,541 transactions valued at N29.44 trn were recorded in Q4 2017 as data on Electronic Payment Channels in the Nigeria Banking Sector revealed.
The Bureau said, “Automated Teller Machine (ATM) transactions dominated the volume of transactions recorded. 239,692,229 volume of ATM transactions valued at N1,833 bln were recorded in Q4 2017.
It said, “In terms of credit to private sector, a total of N15.74 trn worth of credit was allocated by the banks in Q4 2017.
“Oil & Gas and Manufacturing sectors got credit allocation of N3.58trn and N2.17 trn to record the highest credit allocation in the period under review. As at Q4, 2017, the total number of banks’ staffs increased by 9.19% from 82,840 in Q3 2017 to 90,453.
Meanwhile, NBS said, power generation statistics for Q4 2017 reflected that a total average of 94,627 MWh of energy was generated daily by power stations.
It said, “daily energy generation attained a peak of 105,152 MWh on the 8th of December 2017.
“Thermal stations generated 84,026 MWh of this while the hydro stations generated 21, 126 MWh.
“However, the lowest daily energy generation, 73,246, was attained on 18 October 2017 as thermal stations generated 55,941 MWh of this while the hydro stations generated the remaining 17,305 MWh.
“Metering data for all discos reflected that 3.45m customers, representing 46.16% of the total 7.48m customer captured has been metered.
“Benin Disco has the highest percentage of customer metered with 69.49% recorded. This is closely followed by Eko Disco with 60.73% and Ikeja Disco with 55.95% respectively while Yola and Enugu Discos recorded the least percentage of customers metered with 23.61% and 27.72% recorded respectively”, it said.
