From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Journalists have been urged to avoid bias, sentiments and emotions in conflict reporting.
This advise was given to media practitioners at a one day workshop organized by Mercy Corp, supported by West Africa Network For Peacebuilding, WANEP with assistance from Benue and Nasarawa States Peace Committee.
In his presentation, Chief of Party Mercy Corps Nigeria, Danjuma Dawop attributed the causes of conflict to struggle for resources.
Dawop noted that conflicts cannot be resolved without management skills, adding that the media needs to have conflict management skills.
He also said the media must adopt a conflict sensitive approach in an engaging and compelling manner, adding that they must make positive contribution towards peace management by helping to create conditions that allow for the interest and need of various parties.
