AYA-Nyanya: Task Force begs military to ease traffic jam

The Ministerial Task Force on decongestion of traffic gridlock on Abuja-Keffi Expressway Road has appealed to the military to consider adopting new approach to help ease the traffic on the ever ever busy route.
Speaking to newsmen, Chairman of the Team, Comrade Ikharo Attah said the team had just concluded a meeting with representatives of the military where ghey appealed to them to show understanding on the plight of road users on that axis.
He noted that the military check point in Kugbo area of that road has been said to be largely responsible for traffic build up, especially in the mornings.
Recall that the Abuja Keffi road has been notorious for traffic holdup in the recent time. In the mornings, a distance which ordinarily should take comutters 15 to 25 minutes to get to the city centre has stretched road users for hours, making workers get exhausted before reaching their work places.
Also, in the evenings, workers return exhausted and don’t get enough rest before the next day’s job. It was against this background that the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello set up this Team last week.
In a related development, the Team early hours of Monday intercepted a top military officer, who drove against traffic and insisted that his convoy and all others who joined in the illegality turn back and do the right thing.
The incident, had sent a signal that it is no longer business as usual and that no illegality would be tolerated henceforth.
According to Comrade Attah, the team chairman said that all traders on the road corridors and those encroaching on the roads have been removed.
However, some Abuja residents who commended the the FCT Minister for setting up the committee as the results are beginning to show, also called for sustainability of the programme.
Residents called on the Minister to adopt strategies that will sustain the strategy to keep the road open.
Equally, other commuters charged the minister to extend the committee job to other routes so that road users there too can enjoy free flow flow of traffic.
