…describes self as ‘freelance politician’
By Musa Baba Adamu with agency report
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has hinted at ongoing political realignments, declaring that he now operates as a “freelance politician” amid uncertainties within major opposition platforms.
The governor made the remark on Thursday while hosting Peter Obi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside stakeholders from the South-East at the Government House in Bauchi.
Mohammed explained that the engagement was part of broader consultations among political actors aimed at strengthening national unity and exploring possible alliances ahead of future elections, rather than advancing narrow partisan interests.
He noted that the current political climate has left many actors in a state of uncertainty, particularly within opposition circles, stressing that ongoing legal processes would ultimately shape the direction of party alignments.
According to him, while the discussions remain political in nature, details of the deliberations would not be made public.
The governor, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), suggested that collaboration across party lines is becoming increasingly necessary, as stakeholders seek common ground in addressing national challenges.
He described Obi’s visit as a reflection of efforts to build bridges across regions, commending the former presidential candidate’s advocacy for unity and inclusive governance.
Mohammed added that such engagements highlight a shared commitment among political leaders to pursue cooperation and chart a collective path forward for the country.
