The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission said it had introduced written examinations for civil servants to determine those that merit promotion to the next salary grade level.
The state Head of civil service, Mr Abdon Dalla Gin who made this known yesterday while declaring open a two day sensitization workshop for batch ‘B’ civil servants in Bauchi organized by the commission and office of the head of service for civil servants on the essence of the examination, said that the exams was not to witch hunt or dismiss civil servants, but to keep workers abreast with contemporary issues in a fast changing world.
He said, “The written examination which serves as a yardstick for promotion is also to make workers imbibe the culture of reading to be able to discharge their duties with ease. It is also meant to improve the quality and productivity of the public servants for a better Bauchi state”
“Since the introduction of promotional examination in the state civil service, I am particularly impressed so far with the performance of civil servants who sat for the examination.
The performance of those who sat for the examination scored about 88 percent, which is very encouraging”
He thanked governor Yuguda for supporting the exercise, saying that it has started yielding positive results in the civil service.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Anaco Multi Consults Ltd, the consulting firm for the exercise, Alh. Abdullahi Yahaya, said 820 candidates are expected to sit for the exercise coming up on the 22nd of November 2014.
Alh. Yahaya warned the participants against absenteeism at the workshop, stressing that the punctuality register introduced at the venue, will earn marks to the participants.
In a vote of thanks, the Director Examination in the office of the Head of Service, Alhaji Bappah Baba, thanked the participants for exhibiting good conduct at the workshop and called on them to use the papers presented to enable them pass the examination.
