Bauchi State Government has begin delivery of eight out of the sixty buses to boost the state revenue and to alleviate transportation problem of citizens.
Last year February 2018 , the State Government at the end of its State Executive Council meeting announced its intention to purchase 60 buses for its own transport company at the cost of 1.3billion Naira and the delivery of the buses comes 15 months after government expressed its intention.
General Manager of the Yankari Transport Company, Alhaji Aliyu Sa’idu Abubakar disclosed this when he conducted journalists round eight out of the sixty buses delivered to the company by the contractor at the premises of the company in Bauchi.
He said the remaining fifty buses have arrived the country and by next week, the State Government will release some funds to the contractor to enable him deliver the remaining buses to the company.
Aliyu said the purchase of the sixty 18 seater buses will also increase the revenue base of the state owned transport company, Yankari Transport Company Ltd and commended the outgoing Governor Abubakar for his effort to put the company on sound footing and said the buses will be one of legacies of the outgoing governor He said initially when the buses arrived it will be as planned by the out going government , thirty buses will be given to the state owned transport corporation, Yankari Transport Corporation and twenty will go to the twenty local government areas, while ten will be retained by the state government.
Aliyu said when he became the general manager of the company only ten buses were on the ground but he was able to repair thirty more buses and maintained them, today the company has over forty buses flying the road despite challenges associated with old vehicles.
On the ceremony of Democracy Day on 12 June , Aliyu who is ardent supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari said he sees nothing wrong with the President’s decision since it didn’t affect the 29th May swearing in date and appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the President in his commitment to take the country to the next level.
