Bauchi: Only two fire operational vehicles are functional-Director

The Bauchi state Directorate of Fire Service yesterday said, out of its nine operational vehicles, only two of them are presently on road.

The state Director of Fire Service, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Abdulkadir disclosed this when the state Commissioner of cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Ubati Mohammed, who is also overseeing the state Ministry of Works, paid a familiarisation visit to the Directorate.

After conducting the commissioner round to see the Directorate’s water reservoir and operational rooms, he enumerated some of their problems, which include lack of office accommodation, called for the re-activation of the Directorate’s fire-fighting machines, in order to serve the people diligently.

At the Vehicle Administration department of the ministry, the Director, Engineering of the department Alhaji Mohammed Beni, described the commissioner’s visit as commendable, saying it came at a time when the Directorate needs government’s care and attention.

Engr. Beni told the commissioner that the Directorate has generated over twenty million naira as revenue for the state government and pledged to continue to sensitize the people on the need to always observe traffic rules and regulations.

He also told the commissioner that the Directorate has only one Patrol Hilux vehicle, and therefore pleaded with the state government to come to their aid.

While at the Government Driving School, Bauchi, the Principal, Mr. Victor Baldum described the school as one of the oldest and the best in the country.

The Principal called on the state government to provide the school with furniture as well as fence the school, to prevent encroachment.
