Bauchi State Urban and Water Corporation has explained the people of Bauchi town and environs require 75 million liters of water daily for their consumption.
General Manager of the Corporation, Engineer Aliyu Aminu Gital disclosed this yesterday, while answering question from reporters on the ongoing rehabilitation of water projects in Bauchi.
He expressed confidence that rehabilitation exercise will addressed the problems of water shortage in the state.
Gital said the new pipes seen in the state are water pipes that will be used to replace some bad components.
“We have some of pipes that are older than me, and I am above 50 years now for you to think that a pipe that was there for 50 years and still be performing without leakages I think you may be wrong, so replacing some of this pipes is a part of rehabilitation you also know that we have some new layouts within the metropolis do not have water pipe lines in their areas there’s going to be extension of this pipe to new layout that is part of expansion, this pipes are part of the intervention support by the world bank.”
He said, “Let me remind you 1992 similar schemes was commissioned which called Bakalori we are talking 27 years ago and that water demand of the metropolis up to 2005 it was a pipes that a sustained the facilities should be expanding before 2005 which did not come out until now, when this one is done we expect that this facilities of seventy five million liters will able to lead the water of the metropolis up to 2027, I am confident we have done it before and we are going to do it this time around.”
Managing Director said the corporation has addressed the fear of embankment of Gubi dam which is the major source of Water for Bauchi and environs.
