Bauchi: Senatorial aspirant awards scholarship to 161 students

Bauchi South Senatorial Aspirant Dr Safiya Iliyasu has awarded scholarship to 161 students of tertiary institutions across the country who are indigents of Bauchi state.
She made the disclosure while awarding scholarship to 10 students, 7 women and 3 men, of the College for Shari’a and Arabic Studies (CSAS) weekend at Dutsen Tanshi in Bauchi Metropolitan.
Dr Illiyasu said the gesture is to assist the students to have access to quality education with a view to making them become productive citizens of the state.
The aspirant was represented by her aide Aliyu Jibo Dass, informed that most of the beneficiaries are married women who are out of school due to lack of money to pay for their school fees.
Dr Iliyasu, who is aspiring for the Bauchi South senatorial ticket under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) come 2019 general election and educationist, she said, finds it expedient to contribute her own quota to the educational development of Bauchi State through human capital development.
According to her, a total of 161 indigent students from Bauchi State in tertiary institutions across the country to benefit from a scholarship scheme.
Dr Safiya who is also the Project Manager with the Abuja office of UNESCO, that each of the beneficiaries will be given a total sum of N17,000 to cover their tuition fees, the students cut across tertiary institutions of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and Bayero University Kano (BUK) ,ATBU Bauchi,
She said the beneficiaries were carefully selected to ensure that those truly in need of help to complete their tertiary education.
In his response the secretary of the College, Mallam Musa Haruna, thanked Dr Iliyasu and her team for the kind gesture.

Hr said “many have come with different type of promises but none has deemed it fit to fulfill their promises.
Haruna therefore, prayed for the success of Dr Iliyasu in her future endeavors and urged her to continue to extend helping hand to the less privileged in the society.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to their benefactor, who they described as God-sent.
