The British broadcasting cooperation (BBC), has official lunched a television news programme broadcast in Hausa language, which is one of the widely spoken language in west Africa that cut across the northern Nigeria, Niger and part of Ghana.
According to Liliane Landor, BBC World Services controller Languages, we are proud to be the first among international broadcasters to launch TV content in Hausa language.
The 10 minute weekday bulletins are the first of its kind an international TV station aired a West African native spoken language.
The bulletins will be available on the BBC Hausa website and rebroadcast on some TV channels.
In addition to the three daily segments of 30 minutes news bulletins in Hausa language. The new TV bulletins will further broaden BBC Hausa’s appeal to audience on TV and online at the same time reinforce the BBC’s presence on the African media arena.
Hausa language is widely spoken in West Africa communities, an estimated 50 million people in northern Nigeria, Niger and some parts of Ghana uses the language as a means of communication. About six countries ,includes USA, China, France, Germany, Iran and Britain broadcasting Radio news bulletin are air at least three segments daily in Hausa languages.
