Some politicians in Lagos yesterday advised delegates to the national conference to avoid unnecessary and disruptive disagreements.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on their expectations, the politicians urged delegates not to allow themselves to be used by persons for inordinate quests.
The founder of the Peoples Movement for a New Nigeria (PMNN), Alhaji Yahaya Ndu, expressed optimism that the delegates would take advantage of opportunities offered by the conference to change Nigeria’s fortunes.
“My expectation is that in view of the mounting challenges confronting this nation, the delegates to the conference will do all within their powers to make the best out of an obviously bad situation,“ he said.
The National Public Relations Officer, KOWA Party, Prof. Oluremi Sonaiya, expressed the hope that the delegates would address issues critical to Nigeria’s wellbeing courageously.
“What I am hoping is that the delegates at the conference will be able to own this conference; they will make it theirs.
“They will not be playing to any body’s dictates; they will dare to discuss the issues that are crucial for our continued existence as a nation.
“I don’t necessarily think that Nigeria is going to break up but I think it is important that there be openness, honesty, objectivity in all the discussions.
“And I’m very happy that there are at least a few individuals known to be people of integrity who are in that conference.
“So that gives me great joy, and I hope that the few good ones will speak out boldly and clearly on the issues and truly represent the interest of the nation,“ he stated.
A former Deputy National Chairman, Alliance for Democracy (AD), Alhaji Musa Umar, also said that the decisions reached at the national conference should be taken seriously.
“It is a necessary conference and we need to talk; we need to discuss how we live together and how the country should move forward.
“My expectation for this conference is at least it is better to talk all the time than to fight. (NAN)
