Surveyor General of the Federation, Surv. Abuduganiyu Adebomehin

The Surveyor General of the Federation, Surv. Abuduganiyu Adebomehin, has revealed that the Republic of Benin refused to accept a treaty in a border community dispute because it favors Nigeria.

This was according to a statement signed and by Head, Information and Public Relations OSGOF , Henry David .

Surv. Adebomehin stated this when he received a delegation of students delegation  led by an Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Surveying and Geo-informatics of the Institution, Miss Augustina Ajiroghene, yesterday in Abuja .

Adebomehin explained that Benin’s refusal to accept the treaty is due to its unfavorable terms.

He cited an instance where Benin deviated from the agreed-upon course on River Agbara, instead choosing an alternative route that benefited them.

This development is not isolated, as there have been ongoing border disputes between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

“ For instance, the community of Igbokofi has been at the center of a border dispute, with Benin Republic allegedly encroaching on Nigerian territory”.

Adebomehin emphasized the importance of uprightness in the surveying profession, encouraging students to take their course seriously and proceed to university after completing their Higher National Diploma.

He also highlighted the significance of surveying in various aspects of life, noting that it is practiced in all ramifications of life.

Earlier, The Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Surveying and Geo-informatics of the Institution, Miss Augustina Ajiroghene  explained that the aim of the excursion is to sharpen knowledge of the students on modern tools used in Office of Surveyor General of the Federation .

“We also want to  have access to these technological instruments and for us to be better professionals in the field of Surveying”.

The representative of the students and President of NISGS, Jethro Stephen reiterated that the excursion is  part of our academic curriculum and for us to have first-hand experience of modern technologies and operation in the field of surveying.
