The Benue state House of assembly on Friday lifted suspension on two out of the four suspended members.
Our correspondent reports that the two lawmakers are Solomon Gyila who represents Gwer West State Constituency and Andrew Agom, for Okpokwu State Constituency.
The house took the decision during plenary, following a motion moved by the member representing Ohimini state constituency, Isaac Ochekilye, which was seconded by member representing Adoka/Ugboju, Micheal Audu.
Recall that four lawmakers were suspended on Monday for legedly disrupting smooth legislative activities.of the House.
While moving his motion, Ochekilye urged the Assembly to lift the three months suspension on the four lawmakers to ensure that their constituents do not suffer and miss out on effective representation.
Ochekilye called on the speaker and principal officers of the house to rethink the action and recall the lawmakers to afford their constituents effective representation.
Audu of Adoka/Ugboju, who seconded the motion said they represent their various constituents in the assembly to speak and take decisions on their behalf. He appealed that the suspension be lifted to ensure their return to the house to continue their legislative activities.
On his part, Abu Umoru of Apa state constituency described the motion as timely while Simon Gabo representing Mata state constituency said for the seek of unity and harmony, the house leadership should do the needful. Manger Manger of Tarka state constituency Alia,supported the motion, calling on the house to vacate the suspension of the lawmakers in order to give a sense of belonging to their constituents.
Ruling on the motion, the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh said the decision was not personal but in the interest of the state.
He declared out of the four suspended members, Anthony Agom and Solomon Gyila have shown remorse and will be recalled while Douglas Akya of Makurdi South and Cephas Dyiko of Konshisha will be granted more time to show remorse for their action.
Also, he house had during the plenary, confirmed the remaining two caretaker committees chairmen, Ire Arubi of Oju and Yabuku Ochepo of Agatu local government area.
