A Benue State High Court in Makurdi has issued an injunction preventing the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) from conducting its state congress in Benue State.
The court’s decision effectively bars the PDP from holding the state congress, pending further proceedings.
The court issued the order in response to a lawsuit filed by a group of plaintiffs, including Igbawuwa Andover Alfred and others against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its officials namely the Acting National Chairman, National Organising Secretary and the Benue State Caretaker Committee Chairman.
Justice Theresa Igoche, the trial judge, heard the application for an interim injunction filed by the aggrieved members of the PDP on Thursday.
The applicants, represented by F.T.Anongo and others sought to restrain the defendants, including the PDP national officials, from conducting the party’s congress in Benue State, scheduled for 31 August 2024.
After considering the submissions of the learned counsel for the applicants, Justice Igoche granted the injunction pending the determination of the case.
Justice Igoche also ordered that the party not recognize any list of Ward and local government congresses from Makurdi, Vandeikya, Ukum, logo, Gwer West, Gwer East, Katsina-Ala, Ado, Okpokwu, Ogbadibo, Ohu, Obi, Otukpo, Apa and Agatu.
