The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) has announced the postponement of the elections expected to be conducted into 23 Councils on Saturday 28 March, 2020.
BSIEC’s Chairman, Joseph Tersoo Loko, made the announcement at a news briefing in Makurdi.
Loko explained that the indefinite postponement of the election was due to the ravaging Convid-19 pandemic.
“Human lives are very important and against this background, we have decided to shift the election for this Saturday indefinitely,” he said.
The chairman said as soon as solution is found to the devastating ailment, the commission would carry out the elections in all the council areas in the state.
He intimated that before the postponement of the election, the commission was fully prepared for the polls, stressing that the contractor handling sensitive materials was already conveying them to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) before the stoppage of the polls.
Loko further intimated that six political parties and 11, 000 ad-hoc staff are expected to participate in the already postponed election.
