As the senseless killings across Benue state by herdsmen and suspected bandits continues to persist , the member of the House of Representatives for Gwer-West/Gwer-East federal constituency Honourable Austin Asema Achado has called for an expanded stakeholders dialogue that will address the situation and hopefully bring the wanton destruction and lost of innocent lives to a possible end.

The lawmaker also expressed concerns that aside the continued spate of killings in Benue state , the equally , raising cases of kidnapping and displacement of villagers is already have an overwhelming negative impact on the wellbeing of the people of Benue.

To this end, Honourable Achado ,in a statement tagged,” urgent need for an expanded stakeholders meeting on the worsening security situation in Benue State”, outlined measures of addressing menace to include “gathering of data to inform decision-making,including alerting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,who is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“Assessing the current situation ,gather information on the extent of the killing ,kidnapping and displacement in the state “.

Hon Achado who acknowledged the efforts by the Benue State Government in trying to address the situation maintained that ,the Anti -Open Grazzing law through training of law enforcement agencies,dedicated task forces as well as detail information dessimination on the intention of the law.

According to him, the dialogue will amongst other things generate viable solutions the will ensure peace in and around Benue state .

The statement reads in parts, “during this meeting, it is essential to prioritize the following areas of discussion.

” To assess the implementation of the Anti-Open Grazing law, which is aimed at promoting modern practices for cattle farming. Whether the enforcement of the law by Benue State Government can help reduce conflicts between farmers and herders?

“Assessing the current situation: Gather information on the extent of the killings, kidnapping and displacement in the state. It’s important to have accurate data to inform decision-making, including alerting President Tinubu, who is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“Enhancing security measures: Discuss strategies to improve security in the state, including increasing police presence in crime prone areas, establishing vigilante groups, and implementing technology-driven solutions like surveillance cameras or drones.

“Strengthening law enforcement: Explore measures to enhance the enforcement of the Anti-Open Grazing law, such as training law enforcement agencies, establishing dedicated task forces, or raising public awareness about the law and its benefits.

“Rehabilitation and Support for Displaced Persons: Ensuring comprehensive rehabilitation and support programs for displaced persons, comprising shelter, healthcare, education, and psychosocial support. Collaborating with relevant organizations, including National Assembly members and other Federal Government Appointees from the state, to provide necessary assistance to affected individuals and families.

“I believe that an expanded stakeholders meeting of this nature will enable us to collectively address the underlying issues behind the recurring violence, displacement, kidnapping and general insecurity. It is only through inclusive and collaborative efforts that we can forge a path towards sustainable peace and harmony in Benue State.

“I kindly urge the Benue State Government to take immediate action in convening this crucial meeting. Time is of the essence, and the Benue community is in dire need of Government proactive intervention.

“I am confident that with Governor Alia’s leadership and the combined efforts of all stakeholders, we can bring about positive change and restore peace in our state”
