Benue State government has concluded plans to distribute 50, 000 naira to market women across the state to enhance their trade.
Governor Hyacinth Alia disclosed this on Sunday during a state broadcast to mark the 63rd Independence anniversary of the country.
The Governor who said it is part of efforts to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, also, intimated that government will soon distribute rice to indigent households in the State.
He argued that as the nation reflects in retrospect, it is equally pertinent for the people of the state to examine ‘where we are, and look to the brighter future that lies ahead of us, especially in a State like ours that possesses all
the potentials of putting us in the comity of states’.
The Reverend Governor noted that the agricultural sector in Benue is a sleeping giant only waiting to be jolted and unleashed to boost food security and enhance job creation, adding that It is in view of this that barely few weeks after coming on board, his administration procured 100 trucks of fertilizer for distribution to farmers at subsidized rates.
“This, coupled with several ongoing agricultural reforms under my watch, I
confidently envision a Benue that would efficiently feed itself and the country in its entirety, and as well, export its array of agricultural produce.”
