Benue Reps Member, 8,000 APC members defect to PDP

Date:

From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Over 8,000 members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, alongside the federal lawmaker representing Gwer West/East in the National Assembly, Mr. Mark Gbillah yesterday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Other defectors include, the council chairman, councilors, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Relations and the General Manager Benue State Environmental Sanitation Agency.
Speaking at the event, the federal lawmakers explained that they are leaving the APC after consulting widely with major stakeholders in his constituency.
He said, “This is the axis that herdsmen ravaged the most in our state apart from Makurdi, Guma and Logo local government areas and in the midst of this, the lack of concern and indifference of the APC led federal government about the security of lives and property in our state left us with no other option but to leave the party.
“Our people were killed and chased away from their communities and ancestral homes and the federal government feigned ignorance to the plight of our people despite the cries of every one of us including Governor Ortom for help and assistance.
“It is also for the very undemocratic disposition of the APC led federal government which has chosen to flout the rule of law with impunity that has chased us out of the party.
“You can also see how we are being told to suspend the rule of law for national security. These are the alarming things we are hearing under this administration.
“Senator George Akume also keeps lying about what he has done for everybody but the truth must be told about the false claims. So over 8,000 of us are leaving the party for him and more would be leaving in the coming days as the train moves to other areas of my constituency and Gwer East,” Gbillah said.
