The Abuja Environmental Protection Board said it had sealed up two shopping plazas in the city for lack of waste bins and indiscriminate burning of waste in their premises.
Mr Babashehu Lawan, the Ag. Director of the board told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that Rajab Plaza and Chantal Plaza in Durumi District were sealed recently.
He said that the plazas were closed down by the board in collaboration with Environmental Health Officers.
Lawan said that the board would not tolerate plazas in the city operating without appropriate waste bins.
He said that lack of appropriate waste bins in premises caused indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
“Every property owner in the FCT must ensure that his property is provided with a waste collection bin.
“We must avoid indiscriminate dumping of waste,” he said.
He noted that more than 179 occupants of houses in Wuse District were recently prosecuted for various environmental offences in a mobile court in the area. (NAN)
