The repelled Boko Haram insurgents attack by the Nigerian troops on Gombi town; in Gombi local government area of Adamawa State Sunday evening has left a soldier (warrant officer) and a woman dead.

Findings by Peoples Daily revealed that the insurgents stormed the area Sunday evening and they attempted to take over from Nigerian military but met a stiff resistance as the soldiers engaged them in a fierce gun duel which lasted for over four hours

Eyewitness account told newsmen in Yola that the attempt by the insurgents met a stiff resistance as the soldiers engaged them in a fierce gun duel that lasted for over five hours.

According to the eyewitnesses the insurgents attacked the town from Biu – Garkida axis which connects Sambisa forest and the hilly Lala axis which links with the border with Gombe state.

“The insurgents stormed that town and were shouting Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, meaning Allah is the greatest” one eyewitness gave an account of the incident.

He added that the attackers took security men unawares as resident took to their heels as they scampered for safety.

Reports had it that before midnight Sunday, the entire town was deserted as the military and the insurgents engaged themselves in a fierce fighting before the intruders were repelled.

Military authorities and other security outfits have confirmed the attack.

It will be recalled that Gombi local government area was among four in northern part of the state captured for over one month by Boko Haram insurgents between early November and December last year before it was recaptured by the military.
