Bomb kills 3 soldiers in Jigawa

A bomb, alleged to have been planted by the roadside, has killed 3 soldiers believed to be on patrol in a bush located in Gwaram local government area of Jigawa state.

According to a source at the area, who spoke to our reporter, the Joint Task Force vehicles numbering upto 10 were on a patrol of the area when suddenly the bomb was detonated and killed 3 soldiers in an ‘Operation Salama’ vehicle while 3 others were in critical condition.

The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., happened at a forest near Gwani, at Bisirka village, Gwaram local government area, Jigawa.

The soldiers were attacked in an ‘Operation Salama’ vehicle while entering the forest, suspected to be a hide-out of gunmen, whereby only a few weeks ago some gunmen attacked a police station and killed seven mobile policemen in the same Gwaram local government headquarters.

The road side bomb that hit the JTF convoy was suspected to be planted by the criminals, who had since turned the forest as their hideout.

When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPPRO) of the command DSP Abdul Jinjiri, confirmed the bomb attack, but stressed that the incident occurred at a town in Bauchi, near Jigawa state.
