The Christiansl Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Borno state yesterday called on all Christian faithful across the country to begin fasting and extensive prayers for the release of all the secondary school girls being held by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
State Chairman of CAN, Rev. Titus Pona who made the call at press briefing equally appealed to members of the Boko Haram to release the school girls.
According to Rev. Pona, the association resolved to call on its entire members to resort to divine intervention in an effort to ensure that the abducted girls regain their freedom because no reasonable progress was achieved in the rescue mission embarked by security forces and parents, week after the incident.
“We are calling on all Christians in Borno state and Nigeria at large to fast and pray for the release of more than 100 girls said to have been kidnapped by Boko Haram. I am calling on all Christians in Borno, in Yobe, Adamawa, Nigeria to fast and pray tomorrow (Monday), let see how God will intervene”, Rev Pona said.
He also called on the sect to lay down their arms and channel their grievances through dialogue with the Federal and state government
“We are calling on members of Jammat Alisunah Lidawati Al Jihad to lay down their arms and pursue their case through dialogue because if they can dialogue with the government maybe their problem will be solved. We are therefore calling on our brothers to release these poor girls whom they have abducted”, the chairman stressed.
Rev. Pona appealed to the Federal and the state government to do what they can for the release of the kidnapped girls.
“We call on the state and the federal government to please help secure these girls using the security, using whatever means to see that these poor girls return back to their parents, this is my urgent and passionate call as the chairman of CAN in Borno state” he added.
The CAN chairman also called for more security men in Chibok and most villages in southern Borno because according to him the insurgents have shifted their attacks to volatile villagers in the zone.
