Borno police intercept N27m Indian hemp

Borno state Police Command has intercepted a Mercedes Benz lorry, with registration number KW 886XA, loaded with cheese balls in one compartment and 248 bags of dried weeds suspected to be Indian hemp worth N27 million.

During interception by the Command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a 35 year-old man, Mr. Kole Aladejobi, of Akure, Ondo state was arrested in connection with the recovery.

Parading the suspect at a press briefing yesterday, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jubrin said the suspect, Mr. Kole Aladejobi and the truck were intercepted at about 2052hrs (08:52pm) on 20th August, 2014 near Legacy Garden, in Bulumkutu ward of Maiduguri metropolis, following a tip off.

He said, “the officer commanding the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SP Ibrahim Mohammed and team intercepted a green colour Mercedes Benz Lorry with Reg.No:KW886XA loaded with Cheese balls in one compartment and 248 bags of dried weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp.

Gideon further stated that the suspect, who is an indigene of Akure, after being arrested in connection with the recovery, is now assisting in the on-going investigation.

He added that the Command warned the general public, especially the criminally-minded who engage in nefarious activities to, in his interest, desist and turn a new leaf or face the full weight of the law, as the Command will not relent in the fight against illicit drugs, arrest and prosecution of offenders.

The Command, however, reminded all and sundry that the Police is a leading security agency in the fight against production, circulation and use of dangerous drugs amongst other acts of criminality in the state.

While interrogating the suspect, Mr. Aladejobi, he said, he was a mechanic and was invited to repair the truck when it broke down in Lokoja, stressing that after repairing the truck, he was promised to be given N10, 000 by the owner of the cannabis, and was to follow the driver to Maiduguri and take delivery of the goods, before he was arrested, while the driver escaped.
