Breaking: CAF awards AFCON 2025 title to Morocco
Morocco have been declared the winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after the Confederation of African Football (CAf) overturned the result of their final defeat to Senegal.
A statement from CAF said that Senegal are “declared to have forfeited the final match” with the “result of the match being recorded as 3–0 in favour” of Morocco.
The CAF Appeal Board issued the verdict on Tuesday.
The decision overturns an earlier verdict by CAF’s Disciplinary Board and follows Morocco’s formal protest over incidents that occurred during the final.
CAF agreed that Senegal’s actions breached Articles 82 and 84 of the competition regulations, and therefore forfeit the continental trophy to Morocco.
In its ruling, the Appeal Board concluded that the Senegalese federation was accountable for the conduct of its team, validating Morocco’s claim and bringing clarity to a dispute that had overshadowed the tournament’s conclusion.
Separately, Moroccan international Ismaël Saibari was found guilty of misconduct, but his sanction was reduced to a two-match suspension, with one game suspended and a previously issued $100,000 fine cancelled.
CAF also reviewed disciplinary matters involving Morocco.
The federation was held responsible for the actions of ball boys, though the fine was reduced to $50,000 while a $100,000 penalty related to interference around the VAR area was upheld, and another sanction concerning a laser incident was cut to $10,000.
All other appeals were dismissed, marking the end of proceedings in one of the most controversial finals in AFCON history.
