The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the appointment of veteran broadcast journalist, Mr. Ikharo Attah, as the Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
The appointment, confirmed in a statement by Laure Lamina, Special Adviser (Strategy & Implementation), was formalized in a letter dated April 28, 2026.
It noted that the move aligns with the Minister’s strategic vision to bolster public engagement and ensure transparent communication of ongoing reforms within Nigeria’s education sector.
According to the statement,
in his new capacity, Mr. Attah will lead the Minister’s media and communication agenda.
It added that his core responsibilities include
coordinating public communications and managing institutional messaging,
supervising social media engagement and digital presence and providing high-level counsel on communication strategies and managing crisis communications to safeguard the Ministry’s reputation.
Mr. Attah brings a wealth of experience to the role, boasting over 20 years in the media industry. He began his career at DBN Television before moving to Independent Television (ITV), where he currently serves as the Manager of News and Current Affairs.
Beyond his journalistic achievements, Attah is well-known for his robust roles in public service and enforcement within the nation’s capital.
His previous leadership positions include: 2019: Chairman, FCT Task Force on Traffic Decongestion, in 2020 he became Chairman, FCT Task Force on Enforcement of COVID-19 Protocols., and in 2021 Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement to the FCT Administration.
The Ministry stated that Attah’s appointment is central to its goal of ensuring “consistency in messaging across all platforms” as it rolls out key educational initiatives. Mr. Attah is married and blessed with children.
