A political storm is brewing in Kaduna as the All Progressives Congress (APC) fires a blistering warning shot at individuals peddling rumours of “anointed candidates,” vowing swift and decisive sanctions against those behind what it describes as a dangerous wave of fake news.
In a no-holds-barred statement, the party leadership tore into the rumour mill, branding the claims as a calculated attempt to destabilise the APC from within and ignite unnecessary tension ahead of the electoral season. The party said it has drawn a clear battle line against misinformation, declaring that “enough is enough.”
The Chairman of the Kaduna APC, Hon. Atiku Sankey, did not mince words, insisting that the party will not sit back while “unscrupulous elements” attempt to poison its internal cohesion with falsehoods. He warned that anyone found culpable will face disciplinary action that could reshape their political standing within the party.
At the heart of the controversy is the claim that Governor Uba Sani and key party leaders have secretly endorsed preferred aspirants for elective positions—an allegation the APC flatly rejected as “false, misleading, and politically motivated.”
In a strong defence of the governor, the party described Uba Sani as a tested democrat with a solid pedigree in the fight for democratic values, stressing that neither he nor the party has anointed any candidate.
“The APC has not, does not, and will not anoint candidates,” the statement declared emphatically, reaffirming that all aspirants will emerge strictly through constitutionally recognised processes—either direct primaries or consensus.
But even the mention of consensus, the party said, has been weaponised by detractors to push a false narrative of imposition. According to the APC, consensus remains a legitimate democratic option aimed at fostering unity—not a backdoor for favoritism.
The party urged members and the public to disregard the “toxic propaganda,” warning that the spread of such misinformation threatens party unity and could undermine its electoral strength if left unchecked.
With political activities heating up, Kaduna APC’s fiery intervention signals more than just a rebuttal—it is a full-scale clampdown on internal sabotage, as the party moves to protect its image, enforce discipline, and maintain a level playing field.
Onservers say one thing is now clear: in Kaduna APC, the era of unchecked political rumour-mongering may be heading for a brutal end.
