The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that over a hundred of suspected political thugs have been arrested by security agents while trying to disrupt the ongoing bye-election for Bagwai/Shanono state assembly constituency in Kano state.

The Kano Resident Electoral Commissioner, (REC) Amb. Zango A. Abdu, stated this while briefing journalists on how the election is taking place in Bagwai Local Government area on Saturday.

According to Abdu, Police have confirmed to him that more than 100 suspected thugs have been arrested and would be prosecuted.

“More than a hundred have been arrested. The Police have confirmed to us. You too have seen it yourselves. The process is continuous and and they will be prosecuted,” Abdu said.

According to him, the election exercise is going on peacefully as no report of violence is recorded so far, adding that the security arrangement is also commendable.

“I am very impressed, particularly by the security arrangement, a massive deployment patrol and all those. All those thugs have been prevented and laid down.

“The process is going on peacefully. I am really very impressed,” he said.

The REC explained that the elections in most of the places have commenced as early as 8:30am.

He however stated that only a few cases of delay were recorded as a result of breakdown of two vehicles conveying some election materials and officers.
