Panic broke out in the Jikwoyi area of Abuja on Friday after a hotel building under construction collapsed, trapping several people beneath the debris.

The structure, identified as Ugo West Hotel, reportedly gave way suddenly, catching workers and others around the site off guard.

Eyewitnesses said the collapse caused chaos in the area, with residents and passersby rushing to the scene in an attempt to help.

With no immediate presence of emergency responders at the time, locals began rescue efforts on their own, clearing rubble in search of those believed to be trapped.

As of the time of filing this report, the number of victims involved, either trapped or injured remains unclear.
