Breaking: Recall Attempt Against Akpabio is Unfounded, Says Dr. Tafida

Date:

The Special Advisor to the President of the Senate on Diaspora and Non-governmental Organizations, Dr. Jibril Tafida, has condemned recent purportedly recall moves by some disgruntled elements within the APC in Akwa Ibom.

He declared: “It is disheartening to witness the attempt by disgruntled APC members to recall Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Such a move reflects a lack of unity within the party and a disregard for the democratic process.”

Tafida argued that accusations of anti-party activities and alleged responsibility for the decline of APC in the state appear to be politically motivated and lacking in substantial evidence. He adds: “It is important to consider the intentions behind these claims and whether they are aimed at achieving personal or partisan goals rather than promoting the greater good of the party.”

The Special Advisor warns that any attempt to recall Akpabio will be resisted with all available instruments at their disposal. He emphasized that any valid recall attempts should be based on concrete evidence and valid reasons, rather than driven by personal grievances or political rivalries.

Instead of resorting to recall actions, Tafida suggested that disgruntled members should address their concerns through proper party channels. Engaging in internal conflicts and attempting to suspend or recall Senator Akpabio only serves to weaken the party and divert attention from important issues that require collective efforts to address, he explained.

Tafida maintained that, “It is crucial for party leaders to exercise discernment and weigh the motivations and evidence behind the actions of these disgruntled members and impose disciplinary measures. Party unity and cohesion should be the primary focus, and efforts should be directed towards strengthening the APC rather than engaging in divisive internal struggles.”
