President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments in key institutions within Nigeria’s energy sector, naming a new Executive Secretary for the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and renewing the tenure of the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President appointed Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of PTDF. He takes over from Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
President Tinubu said the choice of Aliyu reflects his administration’s focus on strengthening institutions within the petroleum sector, particularly in areas of human capital development and innovation. He expressed confidence that the new PTDF boss would bring his experience in academia and administration to bear in repositioning the agency for greater impact.
In the same announcement, the President approved the renewal of the appointment of Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TCN for a second and final term.
The renewal, according to the statement, followed a review of Abdulaziz’s performance, with the government citing improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and ongoing efforts at modernising the national power system under his leadership.
Abdulaziz, who has spent over three decades in the power sector, is also credited with playing a key role in strengthening regional electricity cooperation through his involvement in the West African Power Pool.
President Tinubu urged both appointees to approach their roles with dedication, integrity, and a strong commitment to national service, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
