BREAKING: Tinubu Meets Service Chiefs, Intelligence Heads Over Rising Security Concerns

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday convened a high-level security meeting with Nigeria’s top military and intelligence chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid escalating security concerns across the country.

The closed-door meeting, which commenced at about 2:00 p.m., brought together key figures within the nation’s security architecture. Those in attendance included the Chief of Defence Staff, the service chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the Inspector-General of Police, as well as heads of major intelligence agencies. The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was also present.

The meeting comes at a critical time as Nigeria grapples with renewed security challenges in several regions.

Recent developments, including a controversial military airstrike in Borno State reportedly linked to civilian casualties, have heightened public concern and attracted both domestic and international attention.

Further compounding the situation, the United States recently issued a security advisory authorising the voluntary departure of non-essential embassy staff from Abuja, citing a deteriorating security environment in parts of the country.

Sources indicate that the meeting is focused on reviewing the current security situation, evaluating ongoing military and intelligence operations, and developing strategies to address insurgency, banditry, and other emerging threats nationwide.

Monday’s meeting marks President Tinubu’s first major official engagement since returning to Abuja from Bayelsa State, highlighting the administration’s renewed focus on national security.
