Kaduna State is fast positioning itself as a major hub for livestock production in Nigeria, following Governor Uba Sani’s firm commitment to the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project, a Federal Government-World Bank initiative aimed at boosting productivity, resilience, and commercialization in the sector.
The National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Sanusi Abubakar, lauded Governor Sani’s unrelenting support, stating that the project has recorded remarkable success in Kaduna due to the state government’s proactive policies and investment drive. He made this assertion during a courtesy visit to the governor, where he acknowledged the state’s role in creating an enabling environment for livestock farmers to thrive.
Governor Sani, in response, emphasized that his administration sees livestock farming as a strategic pillar for economic development and food security. He reiterated his resolve to expand infrastructure, enhance veterinary services, and provide modern equipment to ensure livestock farmers maximize productivity.
Already, the L-PRES project in Kaduna has facilitated the training of over 1,000 livestock farmers, equipped them with modern tools, and established multiple livestock service centers offering veterinary and extension services. These efforts, stakeholders say, are gradually making Kaduna a reference point for modern livestock farming in Nigeria.
“With sustained investment and government support, Kaduna State is on course to become the livestock capital of Nigeria,” Abubakar noted, adding that the benefits of the project will not only boost the state’s economy but also enhance food security and create job opportunities for thousands of youths and farmers.
As Kaduna takes the lead in livestock transformation, all eyes are on Governor Uba Sani’s administration to sustain the momentum and once again set an example for other states to follow.
