Breast cancer survivor warns patients against relying on herbal medicines

A breast cancer survivor, Mrs Khalisa Muhammad, has cautioned patients against relying on traditional medicine to cure the ailment.
She also cautioned against delaying medical treatment, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and professional healthcare intervention.
Speaking during a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Health Talk held in Kano on Saturday, Mrs Muhammad noted that using herbal medicines as cure for cancer could rather aggravate the condition.
While sharing her personal experience, leading to her survival, Mrs Muhammad urged women to take preventive measures seriously.
“I underwent treatment and surgery. As you know, cancer treatment is a step-by-step process. I also did radiation therapy.
“It was really a painful and devastating experience. I lost hope but i was resilient and Alhamdulillah, i eventually survived.
“ I underwent professional medical processes leading to my recovery and survival. That it why i don’t encourage relying on herbal medicines to treat cancer. To me, it will not augur well,” she warned.
According to her, ignorance and fear often lead many women to delay seeking proper treatment.
“I didn’t know much about cancer before my diagnosis, but after starting my medication, I made it my mission to create awareness among women. I also established a group called Women for Cancer to support and educate others,” she explained.
