BUA Cement has donated ₦12 million to the families of eight people who died in a fatal road accident along the Kajiji–Tambuwal road in Sokoto State.

The company provided ₦1.5 million to each bereaved family as part of its humanitarian intervention to support relatives of the victims following the tragic incident.

The accident reportedly occurred during the week when a commercial mini vehicle conveying 13 passengers collided with a BUA Cement truck, killing eight people, including a child.

As part of its response, the management of BUA Cement visited the affected families in Tambuwal to express its condolences and present the financial assistance.

The visit was accompanied by the District Head of Tambuwal, Alhaji Ahmad Dahiru, and the Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Hon. Abba Shehu Tambuwal.

The donation was described by the community’s traditional and political leaders as a significant demonstration of compassion and corporate social responsibility at a time when the affected families were mourning their loved ones.

Speaking during the visit, Dahiru and Shehu commended BUA Cement for extending financial support to the families despite reports that the company’s truck was not responsible for the crash.

They described the gesture as unusual and commendable, noting that the company had gone beyond expressing sympathy to provide practical assistance to the bereaved households.

According to the leaders, the intervention reflects the importance of corporate social responsibility and the role businesses can play in supporting communities during difficult times.

They added that the financial assistance would provide some immediate relief to the families as they cope with the emotional and economic challenges arising from the loss of their loved ones.

The two leaders also praised BUA Cement for identifying with the people of Tambuwal during the period of mourning, expressing hope that the gesture would strengthen relations between the company and the host communities.

While acknowledging that no amount of money could replace the lives lost in the accident, they said the donation represented a meaningful expression of solidarity with the affected families.

The District Head and the local government chairman prayed for Allah’s blessings on the management of BUA Cement for the humanitarian gesture. They also prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and asked Allah to grant their families the strength, patience and comfort to bear the loss.

The intervention has drawn attention to the role of corporate organisations in providing support to communities affected by unforeseen tragedies.

Although the financial assistance cannot undo the loss suffered by the families, the donation offers immediate support and demonstrates the potential of corporate social responsibility to provide relief during periods of grief.

The incident also highlights the importance of road safety and the need for motorists to exercise caution to prevent avoidable accidents and loss of lives.
