Following the allegation made by President Goodluck Jonathan against the presidential candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari ( rtd), that he didn’t buy weaponry for the country’s military when he was Nigeria’s Head of state, the former military ruler has described Jonathan’s comment as unfortunate, and smacks of ignorance of the country’s history.

Buhari who was reacting yesterday on the morning programme of the BBC Hausa Service monitored in Jos, said this while responding to questions on whether or not he contributed to the Nigerian military during his time he was Head of state.

Buhari reaffirmed that Jonathan was making such comment simply because “he does not understand what he is saying. He does not have the full knowledge of the Nigerian history as well as the knowledge of what has happened. “

He noted that within the twenty months of his stay in office as a Head of state, he bought lots of weaponry for the country, challenging the president to follow record and asked questions before saying anything.

He however called on his supporters to be calm as they go about their political activities as according to him, violence is not in the APC character, dissociating his party from the recent political crisis in Plateau State.

He further blamed the Jonathan administration for the ongoing insurgency, saying the recklessness of this administration was the cause of current misfortune facing the country.
