Dr. Samson Opaluwah, Chairman of the Council for Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON), has urged stakeholders to embrace better facility management.

The Council chairman stated this at the launch of his three books on facilities management, an event that also marked his 70th birthday.

The event, held on Saturday in Abuja, highlighted Dr. Opaluwah’s extensive contributions to Nigeria’s infrastructure management sector.

He expressed deep gratitude to his family, the nation, and God, stating, “I wish to thank God, the nation of Nigeria, and my family for the opportunity given to me to study, serve, and contribute to the development of our country.”

The books—The Principles and Practice of Facilities Management in Nigeria, Health Facilities Management in Africa, and Sports Facilities Management in Africa—are based on Opaluwah’s decades of practical experience in the field.

He described them as a vital resource for addressing Nigeria’s often-criticized maintenance culture.

“These books, when properly studied, understood, and applied, will address the unacceptable tag of our country as one that has a poor maintenance culture,” Opaluwah remarked.
The Chairman emphasized that poor knowledge and skills in facilities management are partly to blame for the nation’s ongoing infrastructure challenges.

He encouraged stakeholders to adopt the insights provided in his publications to foster a more effective maintenance culture in Nigeria.

Dr. Theophilus Abbah, who reviewed the books, praised Opaluwah for his commitment to improving facilities management standards, noting that the launch is a significant step toward fostering a new ethos of responsibility and care in the sector.

The Minister of Sports, John Enoh, also attended the event and stressed the importance of effective facilities management in sports development.
He underscored the need for strategic planning and collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure the longevity of Nigeria’s sports infrastructure.

Dr. Opaluwah’s books are expected to serve as vital resources for professionals, offering practical tools and theoretical guidance to shape a more sustainable future for Nigeria’s facilities management.
