A tragic incident occurred at Makwarari area of Municipal Local Government, Kano State, where heavy rainfal led to the collapse of a residential building on Friday.
The house, belonging to one Tijjani Magaji, a staff with the Kano State Ministry of Information and posted as cameraman at the Ministry of Youth and Sports collapsed and as a result, his 35-year-old wife, Balaraba Tijjani died.
Also, his two children, Abdulnasir and Abdallah, aged 11 and 13 respectively, sustained injuries in the incident.
According to Tijjani Magaji, the heavy downpour that began on Thursday night and continued into Friday morning caused the building to collapse.
He said following the collapse, neighbors quickly rushed to rescue the family from the debris and transported them to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
“Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, Balaraba Tijjani succumbed to her injuries, which included severe spinal cord damage. The children are currently receiving treatment for their injuries,” he said
Expressing his grief, Tijjani Magaji accepted the tragedy as the will of Almighty God and prayed for forgiveness for his late wife. He expressed deep gratitude to the local community for their swift assistance during the emergency.
Magaji also made a heartfelt appeal to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, urging the government to assist in repairing his home, especially given the current high cost of living.
This incident comes amid warnings from the Nigeria Metrological Agency National, who have forecasted heavy rains and flash floods this year, particularly in northern states like Kano.
