The assumption of duty by the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment Dr Kamil Shoretire, has ushered in a renewed commitment to effective administration, institutional coordination and enhanced service delivery within the Ministry.
Since taking over the reins of leadership, the Permanent Secretary has demonstrated a strong resolve to deepen collaboration, strengthen operational efficiency and promote industrial harmony through series of strategic engagements.

As part of efforts to familiarize with the workings of the Ministry and assess ongoing activities, the Permanent Secretary embarked on comprehensive briefings with departments, agencies and parastatals under the supervision of the Ministry. The sessions provided a platform for heads of departments and chief executives of parastatals to present updates on their mandates, achievements, ongoing projects and operational challenges.
The briefings enabled Dr. Shoretire to gain firsthand understanding of the Ministry’s programmes and institutional priorities while identifying areas requiring policy attention, administrative support and improved coordination. Emphasis was placed on accountability, transparency, teamwork and the need for all departments and agencies to align with the vision and objectives of the federal government.
During the launch of the National Industrial Relations Policy of Nigeria by the Ministry in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) the Permanent Secretary reiterated the importance of professionalism, dedication to duty and effective communication in achieving the Ministry’s mandate.
Directors and heads of agencies were encouraged to sustain commitment towards timely implementation of programmes and improved effective service delivery.
In a bid to sustain industrial peace and cordial working relationships, the Permanent Secretary also presided over and participated in reconciliation meetings involving the management of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Kaduna and the Nurses Association of the Institution. The meeting served as an important avenue for dialogue, consultation and amicable resolution of issues affecting labour relations and institutional operations.
The reconciliation meeting reflected the Ministry’s commitment to constructive engagement and consensus building as essential tools for maintaining stability within the sector. Through frank discussions and mutual understanding, parties involved were able to address concerns in the spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility.
Stakeholders commended the leadership approach of the Permanent Secretary, particularly the emphasis on inclusiveness, fairness and open-door communication.
The reconciliation process further strengthened confidence in the Ministry’s commitment to promoting industrial harmony and ensuring peaceful resolution of disputes.
Beyond internal administrative activities, the Permanent Secretary also attended several official meetings, and inter-agency engagements aimed at advancing national development objectives and strengthening institutional partnerships.
These meetings provided opportunities to exchange ideas, review policy directions and explore collaborative approaches to addressing emerging challenges in the world of work and public administration.
Participation in these engagements further underscored the Ministry’s active role in promoting good governance, workers’ welfare, occupational safety, productivity and sustainable development.
The Permanent Secretary’s presence at first of its kind preparatory tripatite meeting for the 114th session of the International Labour Conference of the International Labour Oranization also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to stakeholder engagement and effective representation in matters of national and international importance.
The series of departmental and parastatal briefings, reconciliation meetings and official engagements undertaken since the assumption of duty reflect a proactive leadership style focused on unity, efficiency and results-oriented administration. As the Ministry continues to pursue its mandate, the leadership of the Permanent Secretary is expected to further strengthen institutional capacity, enhance stakeholder confidence and drive reforms that will positively impact the sector and the nation at large.
