Bwari: Fix dilapidated roads- residents charge Council leadership

Worried by the swelling bad roads in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), residents have resorted to making passionate appeal to Council leadership to urgently fix them, in order to alleviate their plight.
In particular, they appealed to the council chairman, Hon. Musa Dikko to rehabilitate the township roads, leading to JAMB office, Nigerian Law School, council secretariat and other major roads in the area.
Most of the residents, in separate interviews, expressed disappointment that the roads are getting worse on daily basis and becoming unbearable for both motorists and pedestrians.
A resident, Simon Audu, lamented that the roads have gone from bad to worse due to the continuous rainfall, which has made the roads an eyesore, adding that the council chairman should do something about them.
He said: “The truth is that we are surprised the roads are still in this bad condition. This bad state of Bwari is one of the areas that the chairman promised to fix during the campaign that brought him into power.
“But two years plus, into this administration, nothing tangible has been done to alleviate our suffering in this town, in terms of access roads.
“2019 council election is drawing near again. I hope he will not use this road to campaign again. Look at the Dutse/ Bwari express road which the council in collaboration with FCT administration rehabilitated in less than eight months ago, it has become death trap to motorists again.
Also, a restaurant operator along the affected secretariat road, Mrs. Felicia Chukwuma, opined that one of the major things that worked against the last administration of the council was the state of bad roads in the area.
According to her, the present administration is still repeating the same mistakes it promised to correct.
“We are seeing what is happening in other area councils close to us.
The closest of them is Jiwa township road, which the AMAC chairman gave a standard look with asphalt fitting, among other roads,” she stressed.
Meanwhile, a senior officer in the council’s works department, who preferred anonymity explained that the council chairman is aware of the plight of the people, adding that the council would rehabilitate the roads in due time.
“The road that they are talking about is not a council road, that is why nothing has been done to the road since the inception of this administration, but other roads that are council projects have been attended to.
“However, I believe that the chairman is doing something to draw the attention of the FCT administration to rehabilitate this road. We are all suffering on this road, because it leads to the council secretariat,” he explained.
