Nigeria’s CAF Confederation Cup campaigners, Rivers United this morning left for South Africa ahead of their Wednesday encounter with Bloemfontein Celtic club in the first leg second round of the preliminary stage.
“We begin our journey to Bloemfontein for our #CAFCC tie.
#ThePrideOfRivers,” the club said on its twitter Sunday morning.
Coach of the side, Stanley Eguma had expressed confidence that the team will not disappoint Nigerians in the clash.
The Pride of Rivers left the country in the wee hours of Sunday morning less than 48 hours after the management raised alarm over South Africa Embassy frustrations in granting the team visa ahead of the trip.
The match on Wednesday will be played at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium, Bloemfontein city, South Africa
Ahead of the encounter, the host Saturday played out a 1-1 away to Kaiser Chiefs in the South African League.
Akumu gave the host early lead in the 9th minute but Tumelo Mangweni equalised for the visitor in the 67th minute.
The winner of the two-leg encounter will qualify for the group stage of the competition.
