CAN buys into anti-corruption sermons at church services

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Thursday declared that it would ensure that anti-corruption sermons are preached during church services towards the promotion of national Ethics and integrity policy in Nigeria.
Bishop Oyonude Kure, Edo State CAN chairman made this known during the flag-off of South-South Dialogue with Stakeholders on National Ethics and Integrity Policy Organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in partnership with National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Benin City.
Represented by the State Secretary of the body, Reverend Humphrey Iriabe, he also pledged to roll out measures to monitor elected leaders for accountability.
“This is what we have being talking about. But we have not work the talk enough.
Corruption is a business of everybody, but those who are supposed to drive it have not done enough.
“Our success should not be measured by the money we have in the bank.
“We are going to partner with ICPC and interrogate our elected leaders.
“The Christian body has being using the pulpit to re-orientate our people.
“And we will ensure that the issue of corruption is talked about every Sunday service”, he said.
He charged Nigerians to denounce to stop glorifying ill-gotten wealth and promote meritocracy for societal development.
Also, the representative of ICPC chairman, Mrs. Grace Chinda said the national policy was a child of necessity, adding that it seeks to promote societal value and voice participation.
Chida, the South-South representative on ICPC Board said: “The policy is in recognition of the pivotal role value, re-orientation plays in the fight against corruption”.
