CAN tasks INEC, Buhari, others on credible election in Edo

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), President Muhammadu Buhari and other Stakeholders including security agents to deliver on free and fair election in Edo State.
Chairman of CAN, Edo State Chapter, Bishop Oriname Oyonnude Kure who disclosed this at a media briefing on Monday in Benin City, appealed to eligible voters in the the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election in the State to vote wise, vote for integrity, posterity, and continuity of the good work in Edo State.
He particularly called on INEC to demonstrate courage, integrity honesty, fairness and unfeigned commitment to the destiny of Edo State and Nigeria by ensuring that the exercise conforms with laid down rules both in practice and principle.
“We call on the President and the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, a man who believes so much in the rule of law to see that the election in Edo State is done peacefully, free and fair, devoid of violence by making sure that all political Stakeholders play by the rules by upholding the rule of law. And by ensuring that all law enforcement agencies play their role in the forthcoming election, maintain peace and order without compromise, intimidation and harassment of the electorate at the polling Centres”.
The body appreciated the good work of the Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II and other traditional rulers in the State for their immersed support for condemning violence as a tool to serve their political interest.
The CAN Chairman, admonished religious leaders and heads of other affiliate bodies of the Association to caution their followers and adherents against the use of violence that will result to bloodshed or death in order not to incur the wrath of God.
He also admonish “some youths who have made themselves easy tool of violence not to take the laws into their hands” ahead of the forthcoming poll.
According to him, “CAN condemns all actions, reactions and threat to the safety of the people. CAN believes that political campaigns should provide a veritable and enabling opportunity for Candidates to market their manifestoes to the electorate and explain their programmes to them”.
