CCLCA commends Tinubu’s Prof Amupitan appointment as INEC Chairman

The Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness (CCLCA), has commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu on the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

The civil society group, through it’s Director General, Nwambu Gabriel, said the nomination of a figure who embodies such high standards of professional and academic excellence is a significant step towards bolstering the integrity and public trust in the country’s electoral processes.

In a letter to President Tinubu, titled “Letter of Commendation for the Nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as INEC Chairman and Congratulations to the Nominee” the group appreciates the administration’s commitment to selecting an individual described as apolitical and a “man of integrity,” as noted by the unanimous support of the National Council of State and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Concluding he said “the nation looks to your proven character, legal acumen, and administrative experience to uphold the sanctity of the ballot box.”

The letter reads;

“Your Excellency

On behalf of the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness (CCLCA), I extend my profound commendation for your thoughtful and strategic nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following the exit of Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

“The nomination of a figure who embodies such high standards of professional and academic excellence is a significant step towards bolstering the integrity and public trust in our electoral processes.

“Professor Amupitan’s credentials as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a distinguished Professor of Law are highly reassuring. His specialization in areas such as Law of Evidence and Corporate Governance provides the necessary legal and ethical foundation required to manage an institution as critical as INEC.

“We deeply appreciate your administration’s commitment to selecting an individual described as apolitical and a “man of integrity,” as noted by the unanimous support of the National Council of State and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

“His extensive administrative experience, including his current role as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos and his previous positions as Dean of Law and Head of Public Law, demonstrates the capacity for impartial and effective leadership.

Furthermore, his nomination as the first person from the minority area of Kogi State to occupy this seat is a commendable gesture towards regional representation in key national offices.

“Your Excellency, thank you for making a choice that reflects competence and credibility. We remain optimistic about the future of INEC under Professor Amupitan’s potential leadership. Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration,” he concluded.
