CEPEJ inaugurates peace, environment clubs in Niger

A Nigeria-based non-governmental organisation, Center for Peace Environmental Justice, CEPEJ has established Peace and Environment Clubs (PEC) to catch them young in Niger State in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.
The Niger State Peace and Environment Clubs programme was flagged off in Fomwan School Minna, while the State peace and environment clubs were inaugurated in three public secondary schools and a private secondary school in Chanchanga, Bida and Suleja Local Government Areas respectively.
Facilitators, Supervisors and Coordinators were nominated who will help to coordinate and facilitate the process in the selected schools in Niger State.
This initiative is geared towards achieving the educational aspect of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is presently running in Delta State and it will soon be expanded to other public secondary schools in States such as Bayelsa, Lagos and the FCT, Abuja.
The facilitators and supervisors who will help to coordinate the activities of the selected public and private schools are Aliyu Musa Wushishi, Fateema Umar Chado from Fomwan Schools, and Mallam Yabagi Musa, Mrs. Jigah M. Veronica from Father O’Connel Science College, Minna in Chanchagan Local Government area; Alhaji Yahaya Usman Lakkan and Sa’hadatu Salawu from Government Technical College, Bida, in Bida Local Government Area, as well as Aminu Abubakar and Rifkatu Shabaze from Government Model School, Suleja in Suleja Local Government Area.
The Chief Executive Officer of Development Initiative of West Africa, Mr. Daoda Kanneh inaugurated the club at Fomwan School and Father O’connel Science College, Minna, while the Principals of Government Technical College, Bida and Government Model School Suleja, Mr. Mohammed A. Doko and Mr. Taneem M. A, inaugurated the Peace and Environment club at the other schools.
During the inauguration, the National Coordinator of CEPEJ, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, represented by CEPEJ’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Mr. Samuel Asange , commended the Niger State Ministry of Education for approving the establishment, and thanked the various schools for accepting and supporting the PEC initiative.
He noted that the initiative will enhance their self-esteem, a major key to success in life, strssing that the development of self-esteem is extremely fundamental to the success and happiness of students.
