Cereal Institute, NASS partner to empower rice farmers

The National Cereal Research Institute (NCRI) Badegi in collaboration with National Assembly Abuja has organized a three days training workshop on Agri-business and empowerment for rice farmers, youths and women in Rice Value Chain for states in the northern region.
The workshop which took place yesterday in Birnin Kebbi was held at Far Hostel Bardariya with the aim to support the youths and women farmers across the northern region.
Delivery his speech, the Kebbi State Governor Senator Atiku Abubakar Bagudu said that the massive rice production is the only remedy in reducing unemployment youth in the country, adding that agriculture is a lucrative business which earns people a lot of money.
The Governor who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner of Agriculture Alhaji Mohammed Garba Dandiga said that the present government is ready to provide all the necessary tools and enable environment for the sustainability of rice production in the country.
The commissioner was also represented by the Director Produce Alhaji Adamu Dankawu Rice has become an International commodity and called on stakeholders to complement government effort in promoting rice production.
In his remarks, the Head of Station National Cereal research Institute Gwadangaji Dr. Philip Audu said that the training would give them more opportunities in their farm production, adding that agriculture is way of reducing unemployment and increase food stuffs in the country.
The participants were drawn from Borno , Katisna, Sokoto Kano, Jigawa states among others.
