Chibok girls: Group decries slow rescue effort by government

Date:

From Ali Abare Abubakar, Lafia

The Child Protection Network (CPN), an organisation dedicated entirely to the protection of the child, has decried the slow rescue effort by the authorities towards securing the release of the over 200 girls abducted by the Boko Haram in Chibok, Borno state.

CPN made this known yesterday in Lafia, via a press release issued to journalists signed by Evelyn Kaderi ESQ, Nasarawa state coordinator for the group.

While deploring the apparent inertia on the rescue effort and the unwarranted politicization of the unfortunate incidence, CPN demands that government at all levels to immediately devise new and effective strategies for securing our schools.

The group also demanded that children at all levels in educational institutions be taught basic security tips, as a deliberate policy since it is obvious that the Nigerian security landscape has been altered more or less permanently.

“We join millions of decent people across the globe to totally condemn this obnoxious and Stone Age act. Child Protection Network appeals that our girls be brought back unconditionally, safe and alive- NOW!” the group stated.

CPN while sympathizing with the families and relations of the abducted girls, called on thefederal government and the international community to come together in a more pragmatic manner to end this saga and forestall future occurrence, stressing that with the appropriate measures taken, the incident should never again happen in the history of Nigeria.
