China gives scholarship to 47 ABU students

The Peoples Republic of China has given out scholarship to 47 undergraduate students of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, to enable them complete their studies.
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Zhou Pingjian disclosed this while presenting the awards to the students in Zaria yesterday.
According to him, the award is to commemorate the 47 years of bilateral relationship between Nigeria and China. He added that China and Nigeria has a lot in common because both countries gained independence on 1stOctober, one in 1949 and the other in 1960.
Speaking on the scholarship, Ambassador Pingjian said next year 48 students will benefit and one student will be added to the list each year. He added that the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is the root of development in Nigeria; saying many Nigerian ambassadors who served in China are products of the institution.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba, said the best of the students were chosen to benefit from the scholarship.
According to him, one hundred best performing students qualified. “so we have to use GPs starting from 5.0 down to 4.6 and those are the students that benefited.”
